The Peace Commission on Tuesday 5th July engaged a cross section of Women's groups in Freetown on recent developments in the country, including the detention of UP leader Femi Claudius Cole and others on allegations of organizing unlawful Demonstrations, and reports of violence against women on the said day of the demonstrations. Among the many deliberations was the need for a coordinated approach on channeling concerns/recommendations on issues affecting women and the country as a Whole.
It was also agreed that the Peace Commission takes the lead in facilitating the release of all those detained by the police.
A team was also assigned to investigate and report on alleged assault and detention of women, and for these to be reported to the Human Rights Commission.
The Commission and the women will continue engagements on the way forward.
